Matt’s Notes:

Port Ellen is quite unique and in great demand, a fragment of whisky history that can’t ever be replaced. This puts Port Ellen in a different category to single malts from operating distilleries due to the closing of the distillery its whisky is becoming more and more collectable.

Diageo, who now owns stocks of Port Ellen Whisky, launched this special distillery bottling in 2001.

Port Ellen 7th Annual Release, distilled in 1979 and aged for 28 Years, bottled in 2007 at 53.8% ABV.

Notes of toffee and roasted nuts permeate though the peat, kiln smoke, coal tarry ropes and charred oak. Seaweed and brine emerge noticeably on the finish.
