Matt’s Notes:

One of the first Japanese single malts to break into the UK market, Suntory’s Yamazaki 12 Year Old continues to impress packed with fruit driven malt. Made exclusively from malted barley, which is milled and mashed with water sourced from the uniquely soft and pure Ojira River filtered through the granite rocks of the Japanese Alps. Mashed, and fermented by a unique strain of yeast in wooden washbacks, the wash is distilled twice, before the whisky is matured in the distillery’s warehouses. Once the whisky has aged for a minimum of twelve years, it is brought to proof with pure Japanese spring water.

In 1923, Suntory’s founder Shinjiro Torii began constructing Japan’s first whisky distillery in Yamazaki in the outskirts of Kyoto famed for its excellent water, this district became the birthplace of Japanese whisky. The superior quality of Yamazaki single malt whisky is Japan’s premiere single malt, with a golden amber hue, a delicate mellow palate with an elegant lingering finish. A superbly nuanced whisky offering layers of complex aromas; sweet cherry blossom, clover, honey and anise with a sophisticated fade of toffee and delicious spice rich notes.
